Soap actress Briony McRoberts killed in train collision

Soap actress Briony McRoberts, the wife of Downton Abbey star David Robb, has died after being hit by a Tube train in south-west London.

The 56-year-old's body was found on the tracks at Fulham Broadway station, near her home, on Wednesday morning.

Police have said they are not treating the death as suspicious.

Her husband Robb - who plays Dr Clarkson in Downton Abbey - is reported to be distraught following her death.

A source told the Daily Record: "He is beside himself with grief. He has lost the love of his life."

McRoberts was best known for her role as Sam Hagen in ITV's Scottish soap Take The High Road - which she played for nine years.

She also appeared in a string of other TV shows including The Bill, Heartbeat, EastEnders and Taggart.

McRoberts' agent Katie Threlfall said the actress had taken her own life, and described her death as 'unbelievably shocking'.

"It's just a terrible, terrible loss of a wonderful woman. Nobody had any idea it was going to happen. Her husband is deeply shocked.

"She was a wonderful woman who had troubles and she will be very much missed. She was so well-loved and was the most vibrant character you could hope to meet. It is just a tragedy."
