The X Factor: More auditions!

The second show in the fourth series of The X Factor has featured yet more highlights - and lowlights - from this year's auditions. Having featured the London auditions in the previous programme, the show travelled to the Birmingham and Manchester, with judges Simon Cowell, Sharon Osbourne, Dannii Minogue and Louis Walsh rating and slating some of the 150,000 people who auditioned. Among those who impressed the judges were Gavin, a wedding singer whose rendition of Jackie Wilson's Higher And Higher won him a place at boot camp. "Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I'd do it," he said afterwards, "but I'm there." 20-year-old checkout girl Steph, who was at the Manchester auditions, was another of the lucky ones, as was 15-year-old Paris - who had missed out on a place in the second round last year after revealing she was in fact too young to enter, in spite of wowing the judges. "You're just a bundle of pure talent," Sharon told her, as she voted her through to boot camp. "I think this girl's special," Simon Cowell told the others. The Cardiff auditions, however, proved less successful. "If I was looking to hire a rug, I would hire you," Simon Cowell told one colourfully dressed but hopelessly out of tune wannabe. Another hopeful, pensioner John, failed to impress the judges with his rendition of Buddy Holly's Oh Boy, accompanied by eccentric dance routine. It wasn't all bad news in Wales though. 22-year-old asbestos inspector Andy got through to the next round with his performance of Fly Me To The Moon, despite being criticised by the judges for being "awkward". Meanwhile, 25-year-old hopeful Rachel was branded the rudest auditionee ever after hurling a stream of abuse at the judges after they slated her rendition of Sheena Easton's Sugar Walls. The unemployed Cardiff lass, who compared herself to Prince and Madonna, was removed from the audition room by security guards after hurling a stream of four-letter words at the panel. "Never in four years have we had someone as out there as that," Sharon Osbourne said afterwards. "She scared me." And some of the more memorable auditions can be seen here.
