Comedian Jack Dee fronts this insight into his comedy hero, Tony Hancock, with archive photos, scrapbooks and even a letter sent to Hancock’s mother by the man who discovered his body in a Sydney hotel room in 1968. Most surprising is an enormous teddy bear Hancock bought in Japan before buying a first-class plane seat to bring it home. There’s also a look back at his greatest sketches with contributions from comedians including Eddie Izzard and Diane Morgan, as well as superfan Pete Doherty. New colour versions of The Blood Donor and Twelve Angry Men follow (from 10.05pm). ★★★★ HD

Best film on TV tonight
The Duke, NOW
If you’re looking for a Saturday-night movie, this comedy-drama based on a true story ticks a lot of boxes. Jim Broadbent plays Kempton Bunton, a Newcastle taxi driver who becomes embroiled in the 1961 theft of Goya’s Portrait of the Duke of Wellington from London’s National Gallery. In director Roger Michell’s final feature film (he died in 2021), he adeptly recreates early 1960s Britain, partly using archive footage that allows Broadbent to literally step into the past. But it’s the gentle strain of feel-good humour that captivates, inspired by Ealing Comedies of old, as a ‘little man’ speaks truth to power. A top supporting cast includes Helen Mirren, James Wilby and Anna Maxwell Martin. ★★★★ JM
Live Sport
- Premier League: Brentford vs Bournemouth, 5 pm (k-o 5.30 pm), Sky Sports Main Event
- Live Snooker: The Masters, 7 pm, BBC Two
