Strictly Come Dancing 2018: Shirley Ballas in tears as Ashley Roberts dedicates dance to her late dad

The former Pussycat Doll topped the leaderboard with partner Pasha

Strictly Come Dancing head judge Shirley Ballas was left in tears on last night's show following Ashley Roberts' dance with Pasha Kovalev.

The former pop star dedicated their routine to Ashley's father, who sadly passed away just months ago.

Giving the pair feedback, Shirley, 58, fought back tears as she told Ashley: “Well I think today you spoke for everybody in the country who has ever lost somebody that they love.

“And, I also lost somebody and many other people have lost somebody. This was sincere. It was from your heart and purely danced from a beautiful.”

Ashley, 37, also began to tear up as Shirley continued: “And I’m so, so sad you’re dad is not here to see you but I know he would be proud of you.”

Ashley and Pasha were awarded 39 points for their contemporary routine, but fans were not impressed.

Many viewers expected Ashley to be given four 10's, but Craig Revel Horwood only awarded them a nine.

Venting their frustration on Twitter, one viewer posted: “Ashley deserved tens across the board for that dance. Craig is normally critical but fair, but he ought to have upped that nine to full marks. #Strictly.”

Another added: “Craig has given 10 for less perfect performances.... what is wrong with him.. really Craig!! Well done Ashley #Strictly.”

“For goodness sake Craig Ashley so deserved 10 what’s wrong with you #Strictly,” a third person wrote.

However, the nine is highly unlikely to affect the pair sailing through to next week!
