We’ll avoid going into detail about the true-life event that the movie is based on in order to avoid spoilers, but if you want to know what happened you can look up the book that screenwriters Becky Johnston and Roberto Bentivegna based House of Gucci on — The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour and Greed by Sara Gay Forden.

'House of Gucci' reviews
The reviews have come in for House of Gucci, and they are a bit of a mixed bag. The movie sits at a 65% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and a 60 on Metacritic, with many citing the film's competing tones, including What to Watch's own Leigh Monson.
Monson said, "as much as one might want House of Gucci to lean into the goofier personas of its characters, the excessiveness of the 1980s and the melodrama of a family tearing itself apart in the name of wealth, the film is at odds with itself; caught between the dueling goals of trashy fun and character study prestige."
