Big Brother: Sleep task proves too much

The exhausted Big Brother housemates have failed to complete this week's shopping task, in which they had to stay awake for 50 hours. They collectively hit the sack in the early hours of Tuesday morning 25 hours into the task, after Jonathan suggested taking a vote on whether or not to continue. "We have honour in quitting and we have honour in carrying on," Jonathan told the others. "We've managed 25 hours, we didn't quit after 10 hours like some of us wanted to." Originally, the house was divided between those who wanted to go to sleep and those who wanted to stay awake. "I'm not quitting," Gerry said. "I think we can make it if we take the breaks at a certain time." Liam agreed. "Everybody's here on their individual journey and my journey's not quitting," he told the others. And Laura was in favour of staying up, saying that Big Brother might give them "a full-on party" - to celebrate the twins turning 19 on Tuesday - if they made it through to the end. However, Charley wasn't so keen. "I'd rather not argue with anyone and just go to bed," she insisted, "because otherwise I'll be downright rude." And after much debate, the majority eventually agreed that they needed to sleep. The failure of the task means that the housemates will have to survive on basic rations for the next week.
