Fans of Big Brother will have to wait until next summer for their next fix, after Channel 4 announced there will be no celebrity version in 2008. The channel said that the series has been axed as part of a programme of 'creative renewal', and was likely to return in 2009. This year's series of Celebrity Big Brother made headlines around the world after Jade Goody was accused of bullying and making racist remarks towards the show's eventual winner, Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty. However Channel 4 have denied that the controversy surrounding the series led to the decision to shelve it next year. They have instead said that its axing comes as part of a policy to clear almost all returning series from its peak-time schedule in favour of 'new and adventurous programming'. The current series of Big Brother, which ends next week, has failed to attract as much publicity as previous series, despite healthy viewing figures.
