Britain's Got Talent's Alesha opens up about marriage split

Alesha Dixon has revealed how she hit rock bottom when she lost her marriage and her solo record deal all at once.

The Britain's Got Talent judge opened up on Piers Morgan's Life Stories about her lowest ebb in 2006, when she was dropped by her record label, and discovered ex-husband MC Harvey was having an affair with fellow pop singer Javine Hylton.

Alesha confessed: "There I was one day married, signed a solo record deal, everything was wonderful and then I was there in my house with nothing. It took me a long time to work my way out of that time. I was lost for quite a long time."

Asked about how she felt at the time, the 35-year-old singer said: "I feel embarrassed to talk about it but I do remember having that split second thought. That's all it was a split second thought. It's not something I would ever do or was even close to doing. I just remember having a feeling when I was driving, I just felt so low in myself that I just thought I wouldn't care if the car crashed."

Alesha revealed she had confronted Harvey about his affair.

She said: "He was really honest because I was really calm. I actually deserve an Oscar for that day that he came home and I asked him if he had an affair. I kept my cool I was really calm. I'd known all day that he'd had an affair because Javine's partner at the time, who'd walked in on them, not actually in the act. He walked in on them and he [Harvey] was in the bed with her [Javine].

"Time stands still, everything happens in slow motion. Everything happens really slowly and I just remember my mum coming in, I remember telling her and I remember my mum breaking down and I was really cool...

"He came home that night and I thought smartly, the only way I'm going to get the truth is if I calmly sit down and talk to him because if he came in and I was a raging bull I'd have got nothing out of him."

Alesha revealed: "On many occasions he tried to save the marriage. As soon as I had the phone call I knew my marriage was over, I didn't even have to think about it. In a way I'm glad I've been through it. It's made me realise how strong I am as a person."

The former Strictly Come Dancing champion has now moved on with former backing dancer Azuka Ononye and they have a daughter Azura Sienna who will be one in October.

Talking about her current relationship with Azuka, Alesha revealed he has "jokingly proposed five times" but she's waiting until he has a ring before giving her answer.

She also opened up about her difficult relationship with her father, who has never met his granddaughter.

Alesha said: "It's not that I've made a decision, I just think that my relationship with my dad is very up and down and it always has been."

Piers Morgan's Life Stories: Alesha Dixon, airs on Friday September 5 at 9pm on ITV.
