Simon Cowell's baby son given middle name Phillip

Simon Cowell might have named his baby son after his father Eric - but is also reported to be honouring his friend Sir Phillip Green with the infant's name.

According to the Mirror the mogul has given little Eric the middle name Phillip - which was also his dad's middle name.

However others have suggested that the name could also have been chosen in honour of the tycoon, who is a close friend of Simon's - fuelling speculation that Sir Phillip will be Eric's godfather.

"Simon wanted to pay proper tribute to the influence of his late father in his life," a source told the paper.

"Eric Philip is clearly a very proper and respectful tribute to the man.

"But there's no doubt he also wanted to pay some kind of tribute to another Phillip who has been a major inspiration in his life, Sir Phillip Green."

The insider added: "It's tremendous he's been able to pay respect to two different male role models with his son's birth."

Meanwhile Simon has reportedly told friends that Eric's birth on Valentine's Day was 'amazing'.

“There were a few happy tears from everyone, including Simon," a source revealed.

"He kept thanking everyone at the hospital and his team. He couldn’t stop smiling. They’re so excited and Lauren feels great. Simon’s besotted and they’re both so totally in love.”

Simon will now spend a few days with girlfriend Lauren Silverman and the new arrival before returning to the UK to continue work on Britain's Got Talent, which returns in the Spring.
