Star Wards: you'll be amazed by the stars who have appeared in Casualty

From Kate Winslet to Danny Dyer, the wards of Holby City have been walked by many stars. We pick some of Casualty's most surprising appearances

Kate Winslet and Daisy Ridley are among the A-list stars who have featured in medical drama Casualty during its 30-year run.

The BBC One stalwart about Holby City Hospital’s emergency department will celebrate its milestone anniversary with a feature-length episode on August 27.

Casualty made its debut on September 6 1986, and is now the longest-running prime-time medical series in the world.

Some of today’s best known actors were on the road to stardom when they appeared in the continuing drama.

Orlando Bloom from Pirates Of The Caribbean and The Night Manager’s Tom Hiddleston popped up in Casualty in 1996 and 2007, respectively.

Here are just a few stars who have walked into Holby City Hospital.

Before she was Rey in Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, Ridley played Fran Bedingfield in 2013 Casualty episode And The Walls Come Tumbling Down.

The Londoner, 24, is currently filming Star Wars: Episode VIII.

The award-winning star, much loved for Titanic, is laden with honours, having won an Academy Award, a Grammy, three Baftas, a Primetime Emmy and four Golden Globes.

But in 1993 episode The Full Medical, the 40-year-old was Casualty’s troubled Suzanne. It was one of her first TV roles.

Kate has been lined up to star in Woody Allen’s next movie.

Before she hopped over the Atlantic for a career in movies such as Good Will Hunting, a young Minnie was admitted to Casualty as Zena Mitchell in 1991 episode The Last Word.

She will soon be seen in thriller Jekyll Island.

Chart-toppers McFly, whose hits include All About You and 5 Colours In Her Hair, rocked into Casualty to see a fan who had ended up with a badly injured leg.

Harry Judd, Dougie Poynter, Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones made their fans very happy with their appearance in 2005 instalment Fathers, Mothers, Daughters, Brothers.

McFly have postponed their Anthology 2016 tour while drummer Harry recovers from a neck injury.

Now firmly an EastEnders favourite thanks to his award-winning portrayal of landlord Mick Carter, Casualty was first to enlist Danny’s services.

The 38-year-old was seen on screen as paramedic Rossy in 2012 episode Love Is.

At the time, he spoke with warmth about the role to What’s On TV. “It’s a great part because I save lives in it, and that’s a beautiful thing. Plus I found it quite cool to dress up as a paramedic."
