Big Brother's Bez declared bankrupt
Celebrity Big Brother winner and former Happy Mondays dancer Bez has been declared bankrupt. Bez, real name Mark Berry, was declared bankrupt at the High Court on March 31. He won £50,000 by taking part in the reality show three years ago, and said that winning the money would help him to climb out of a financial hole. When he left the Big Brother house, he said: "I've got bankruptcy on my case, all sorts going on and now I can just pay my bills and walk straight with no stress. "I was in a great deal of trouble. Now I've bailed out and I'm forever grateful." He also admitted he had feared losing his house. Bez, 43, rose to fame as the 'freaky dancer' who shook maracas on stage with the Happy Mondays. The Manchester band had a huge following in the late 80s and early 90s with hits like Step On and Kinky Afro, and the album Pills, Thrills And Bellyaches. The band, featured in the film 24 Hour Party People, descended into drug-fuelled chaos and split in 1993. Bez and Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder later formed Black Grape and had a No 1 album. Bez is described as a 'journalist and a musician' based in Chorlton, Manchester, according to the Insolvency Register.
