Coronation Street star Helen Flanagan is to be rewarded for her popularity in the soap with a more prominent role. Seventeen-year-old Helen plays spirited teenager Rosie Webster, who has become a firm favourite character with viewers. And a spokesperson confirmed that Rosie is to be given a new storyline which will portray the 'transitional period' between childhood and becoming an adult. Fans of the ITV1 soap will see Rosie given a job at the Underworld factory, where she ends up bossing about her mum Sally, played by Sally Whittaker. Rosie will be the new personal assistant to factory boss Carla Connor (Alison King), which the spokesperson explained was a surprise choice. "Carla hires her when everyone expects her to hire Sally instead," she said. "But Carla sees a bit of herself in Helen, a bit of the same get up and go, and Rosie wants to be like her too. "So, the storyline is about how teenagers look up to people, the transitional period before becoming a woman. Rosie decides that instead of growing up to be a doctor or something like that, she wants to own a factory." A stand-out moment for Helen's character Rosie came when she ran away from home with boyfriend Craig Harris, played by Richard Fleeshman.
