Coronation Street bookmakers Harry and Dan Mason are being axed to make way for the return of Peter Barlow. Chris Gascoyne will be returning to Weatherfield as Ken Barlow's bigamist son - and the actor is "made up", according to reports in The Daily Star. But Jack Ellis and Matthew Crompton who play the father and son bookies on The Street were apparently shocked to be told they were being written out of the show after less than a year to make way for Peter's return. Matthew reportedly said: "It was horrible. It's like splitting up with someone when you don't want to. You feel sick - just like being dumped." A senior Coronation Street executive told the newspaper: "The two outgoing actors might be a little miffed. I suppose the extra irony is that they are being replaced by another bookmaker. "It's not pleasant news - but the viewers loved Peter for being brash and cocky. He will be around for quite a while." Peter has caused dad Ken, played by William Roache, a lot of trouble over the years with his criminal activities. He married Rovers Return barmaid Shelley while already secretly married to florist Lucy, with whom he'd had a baby. Chris returned to the soap briefly in 2007 for Tracy Barlow's murder trail. He will be back on The Street in October.
