Corrie Michelle's ex signs up for footy sitcom

Actor Pal Aron - best known for playing Coronation Street love rat Sonny Dhillon - is set to appear in a new BBC2 comedy series. Pal, who ruffled a few feathers in Weatherfield last year by secretly romancing both barmaid Michelle and gay knicker-stitcher Sean, will star in the football sitcom The Cup. Written by Absolutely stars Jack Docherty and Moray Hunter, The Cup centres on the parents of an under-11 football team who try to live their sporting dreams through their children. BBC Comedy Commissioning Controller Lucy Lumsden says: "Following a promising pilot we're delighted to have the world of The Cup on BBC2." Treading the hallowed cobbles of Weatherfield hasn't been Pal's only visit to soapland. Between 2002 and 2004, he was a regular in ITV1 crime drama The Bill, playing DC Brandon Kane. Prior to that, he played hospital porter Adam Osman in BBC1's long-running medical drama Casualty. The Cup also features several other well-known faces, including Tanya Franks (EastEnders' Rainey), Dominic Coleman (Ruby In The Smoke) and Emmanuel Leconte (The Tudors). Shooting begins in late March in Bolton and Manchester.
