Coronation Street actress Beverley Callard has revealed she is seeing a new doctor and has 'hope' in her battle with depression.

The soap star said on Twitter earlier this week that the medication she was taking had stopped being manufactured.

A show source stated she would be 'taking time off' from her role as Liz McDonald in the long-running ITV drama.

On Monday night, she confirmed to a fan on Twitter the latest update in her health battle.

She said that her medication had been pulled from production as it yielded 'no profit' and added: “Saw a new Doctor today. Got hope! X”.

Beverley, 59, also told her followers she’d had 'a good day'.

Had a good day today, things are on the up! Thank you for being there!!!!! X

She had tweeted earlier that she had 'been battling the demons of depression' and thanked fans and fellow stars, including Denise Welch, for their support.

The actress has been open about her struggles with mental health and in 2014 told Piers Morgan on his Life Stories show that she had come close to taking her own life.

She said: “I tried maybe half a dozen times, but it wasn’t a cry for help at all. I’d known for quite a while that I wasn’t myself, but I didn’t really know what to do about it.”

She added: “I was going to work and I was still filming and I didn’t really talk to anyone about it and on that day they took me into The Priory in the early hours of the next morning and John said, and my doctor said, I looked like a 100-year-old woman.

“They tried different medications but none of them seemed to work.”
