Anna Phelan Coronation Street

Corrie's Debbie Rush tells us she's desperate for Anna to topple nemesis Pat Phelan

Coronation Street star Debbie Rush has said she desperately wants Anna Windass, to bring down nemesis Pat Phelan before her character leaves the cobbles in January.

Killer builder Phelan, played by Connor McIntyre, blackmailed Anna into having sex with him three years ago and is currently framing her for causing young Seb Franklin’s accident. The teenager recently fell from his ladder whilst window cleaning.

Debbie, who's revealed she doesn't mind if Corrie bosses kill her character off, said: “I know there has been a debate for some time: did Phelan rape Anna or didn’t he rape her? Well, he did, because she was coerced into having sex with him to protect her family.

"We've just done the Bethany storyline, and the nation seems to be on Bethany's side and knows that Bethany was groomed and raped.

“Anna was a grown woman who was groomed and raped. That's the way I've played it, and that's why it’s very important that for me, Anna should be the one to bring him to justice."

The 51 year old star adds that Corrie fans are also keen to see her expose Phelan’s crimes. “I’m getting people in the street, from little old ladies all the way down to young lads, shouting 'Oi, Anna, when you gonna get Phelan?'” she revealed. “It’s great. Everyone wants him done in, and they all want her to do it."

Coronation Street continues tonight at 7.30pm.
