Kal's dad arrives as Coronation Street introduces Muslim family

Coronation Street's Kal Nazir will introduce his dad to the cobbles next week as part of the introduction of the soap's first Muslim family.

Kal, played by Jimi Mistry, will introduce his dad, Sharif, played by Marc Anwar, to Stella Price and Dev Alahan, as he is lending him money to help build his new gym.

Coronation Street executive producer Stuart Blackburn said: "Sharif retired some time ago. He isn't rich, but he'd made enough money.

"We imagine that there were some health problems and his wife said, 'Now you're no longer going to go to work 12 hours a day!'"

Kal's mother, son and daughter are also set to join him in Weatherfield.

Sharif's first scenes will screen on Monday, February 24 on ITV.
