Simon Gregson thanks Coronaton Street writers for getting him into another fine mess

Coronation Street star Simon Gregson has thanked the show's writers for getting his alter-ego Steve McDonald mixed up in another awkward situation.

Steve inadvertently gets caught up in Andrea Beckett and Lloyd Mullaney's relationship after her husband Neil mistakes him for being Lloyd on the ITV soap.

"Steve has got himself caught in somebody else's relationship yet again through no want of his own. Once again, it will all end up in a huge mess so thanks once again to the Coronation Street writers for putting me in this situation," the actor joked to the show's official website.

The couple split after Lloyd (Craig Charles) discovers his girlfriend, played by Hayley Tamaddon, is actually married. Andrea's husband Neil (William Travis) followed Steve around, convinced he is Lloyd, after seeing him offer his wife a shoulder to cry on.

The situation is exacerbated when Andrea stays with Steve and his girlfriend Michelle (Kym Marsh) at the Rovers Return - all without Lloyd's knowledge.

"Steve is Lloyd for a while in Neil's eyes so he's getting that off Neil, then he's getting (grief) off Michelle. Lloyd doesn't have a clue about any of it," Steve continued.

Neil will confront Steve in the pub in Wednesday's episode of Coronation Street, which screens on ITV.
