Dancing On Ice: Tim's time is up

Tim Vincent has become the latest casualty of Dancing on Ice, after Steve Backley won the judges vote for the third week running. The former Blue Peter presenter found himself in the bottom two for the second time this series after his colourful routine, to Mika's Love Today, failed to impress either the panel or the public. "The best part of that whole routine was when you were sat on the step," Jason Gardiner told him. "It's not indicative of a week five performance." Tim, who scored a lowly 12.5 out of 30 from the judges, admitted he can be "very inconsistent. Sometimes I can do it, sometimes I can't." Steve Backley, however, who skated to Billy Joel's 80s chart-topper Uptown Girl, was praised for his improvement - and unanimously won the judges' vote after both had reprised their routines. Afterwards, Tim said the experience had been "fantastic. Every week it was a privilege to be voted through but I think I've found my level." However, there was praise for other skaters including Suzanne Shaw and Gareth Gates, while the current favourite Chris Fountain achieved the highest score of the series so far - a whopping 27 out of 30 - for his performance. He admitted afterwards the show had been "nerve-wracking". "You don't know how good you are," Karen Barber told him, "but there's still more to come, we're only halfway!" Seven couples remain to take part in next week's show, which will have a 1960s theme.
