Former Waking The Dead star Claire Goose has revealed that she would love the chance to work on the award-winning costume drama Downton Abbey.

Claire, 39, is in the new, two-part ITV drama, Undeniable, where she takes the lead role alongside World Without End star Peter Firth.

Claire, who became a household name through her portrayal of nurse Tina Seabrook in the BBC medical series Casualty, said: "I'd love to do a period drama. I've never done one before, so for me that would be a new challenge."

Undeniable sees Claire play Jane Phillips, a woman who recognises her mother's murderer 23 years after the crime took place.

Jane is a troubled character who at first seems fragile, but has an inner strength and an obsessive determination to bring her mother's killer to justice.

Claire admitted that she is looking at more diverse roles these days, as she looks to stretch herself and develop other areas of her acting abilities.

"Undeniable was an incredibly intense emotional piece that I was so ready to do. I think the next part I take should be anything that feels like a new and different challenge."

Undeniable has been written by Chris Lang, who also wrote A Mother's Son and The Reckoning, and will begin on ITV1, Monday, April 7.
