EastEnders bad boy Carl White gets more than he bargained for when Max Branning throws a punch at him.

Max, played by Jake Wood, loses his temper after being riled by Albert Square newcomer Carl (Daniel Coonan).

After coming under suspicion of causing the crash that injured Carl and left Phil Mitchell fighting for his life in hospital, Max will head to the Queen Vic pub to show that he has nothing to hide.

But a confrontation occurs outside the pub doors when Carl arrives and purposely winds Max up.

Max doesn't retaliate until his rival makes a sly comment about his ex-wife Kirsty (Kierston Wareing). He sees red and starts swinging blows at Carl's face, leaving him on the floor.

Tension has been brewing between the duo since Carl's arrival in Walford.

Max previously threatened Carl after finding out he helped to provide alcohol anonymously to his daughter Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa), who has been battling a binge-drinking problem. He has also teased that he would take it to the "bitter end".

Max's rash outburst could have consequences for his case, after he was arrested under suspicion of tampering with Carl's car.

The episode will be shown on the BBC soap on September 6.
