EastEnders actor Ricky Norwood won the award for Most Popular Newcomer for his role as Fatboy at this year's National Television Awards. Earlier on in the evening, Ricky told whatsontv.co.uk about what it would be like to win, about his amazing first year on the soap and who he would like to see play his on-screen father. Speaking on the red carpet, Ricky said: "It's the biggest whirlwind I've ever been on. It's been an amazing year to be around and for me to be recognised amongst all that craziness is even more of an honour. "To be here and have the crowd behind us and to have the award would be so, so good". Watch Ricky talking at the National Television Awards:

An entertainment writer with a diverse taste in TV and film, he lists Seinfeld, The Sopranos, The Chase, The Thick of It and Detectorists among his favourite shows, but steers well clear of most sci-fi.
