Wanted: Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch for role in EastEnders
Benedict Cumberbatch (opens in new tab) is wanted by the boss of EastEnders.
The soap’s executive producer, Dominic Treadwell-Collins (opens in new tab), who appeared in a school play with the Hollywood star, said Benedict would be his dream actor to appear in the BBC soap.

Asked about fantasy casting, Dominic said: “I want Ben Cumberbatch to come and do a turn.”
The soap supremo appeared in a school production of Shakespeare’s As You Like It with the Sherlock heartthrob.
He said he remembered running up to his mother at the end of the play and asking her if he was any good. He said she replied: “Yeah, yeah, yeah, you were fine … That’s an actor” - referring to Benedict.

Dominic joked that Benedict is “slightly busy” at the moment. He is currently starring in Hamlet at the Barbican in London.
