Highlighting the futility of America's war on drugs and the unfairness of its sentencing laws, the film's first half has a gritty, authentic feel, but things get steadily less believable as Johnson's construction company boss gets deeper into his undercover mission, inspiring stuntman-turned-director Ric Roman Waugh to throw in a high-speed car chase to raise the stakes. Look out for Susan Sarandon as a ruthless federal prosecutor and The Wire's Michael K Williams as a drug dealer.
