Adam has tried hard to bury his grief over the death of his son Harry and break-up with Jessica - but the cracks are really starting to show. When the team get a call to attend the riverside rescue of a sunken pleasure cruiser this week, Adam rushes to the scene - despite his colleagues' concerns that he shouldn't go because it's so similar to the accident that killed Harry. Adam ends up jumping to the rescue of a drowning man, yet the event leaves him shaken and the horrors of his son's death rise to the surface... Adam's mates attempt to reach out to him - particularly Alice who is still mourning the loss of Curtis. The shy nurse sums up the courage to give him a book on grief but he just snaps at her. Later he and Alice plant a tree in Harry's memory, and Adam tells Alice he's going to visit his son. He gets into his new sports car and puts his foot down - intentionally makes a beeline for brick wall. Somehow, Adam walks away from the accident unscathed and laughing hysterically, although his car is completely mashed. Will this failed suicide attempt push him further over the edge or pull him back from the brink? Elsewhere Ruth gets a new mentor - surgeon Howard Fairfax. Kieron earns Jordan's begrudging respect on his first day when he risks his career to save a patient's life. And Jeff agrees to marry Dixie!
