In the last of New Lives in the Wild, his series about people giving up the rat race, Ben Fogle meets an English vet now helping Sri Lanka’s street dogs

In the final episode of this fascinating series, Ben Fogle travels to Sri Lanka to meet an extraordinary young woman working to save the country’s street dogs.

Thirty-year-old Janey Lowes fell in love with Sri Lanka while taking a year out to travel.

Disillusioned with her life as a vet in Newcastle, she felt she could make a real difference to the millions of street dogs that live wild in Sri Lanka, so moved there and set up her own clinic, with the help of donations.

Not only is she a vet, she also runs a charity and reveals the immense financial pressure she is under to keep it going.

Ben (pictured above with Janey) joins her busy team as they treat countless dogs, many in an appalling state, catching them off the street and bringing them to the clinic for treatment.

Ben is deeply impressed by the self-confessed workaholic’s drive, focus and selfless devotion to her work, and her love of the beautiful but troubled island that she now calls home.

Inspirational.
