Following on from the events of the first movie, hapless TV journalist Bridget Jones (Renée Zellweger) is now six ecstatic weeks into her relationship with Colin Firth.

But it's a good thing that can't last. She suspects he's having an affair and then, even worse, smarmy charmer Hugh Grant comes back into her life.

He's now a TV celebrity with his own travel show and suddenly she's in Thailand with him on an assignment. And then she ends up in jail, where she soon has everyone singing Like a Virgin.

The plot is just a haphazard collection of funny sketches and warmed-over ideas, but these three stars together are still irresistible.

Zellweger keeps putting her foot into things in the most comical of ways, Firth's cold fish of a character is a deadpan delight and, though Grant's role is smaller this time, every scene he's in is a laugh-out-loud winner.

This film starts at 11.15pm on UTV and is not showing on STV.
