Paramedic Sam Nicholls makes an tough decision to save a patient – but is it the right thing to do?

Paramedics Iain Dean and Sam Nicholls face a nightmare scenario this week when they’re called to rescue a teenager, Danny, who has his foot stuck in a grill in a storm drain. At first it looks relatively straight forward, they’ve just got to keep Danny calm until the fire service arrive and cut him free. But with Holby experiencing a torrential downpour Sam soon realises the situation is dire as the storm drain begins filling up with water…

By the time the fire service arrive the water has risen to their necks, Danny is losing consciousness and the bolt cutters are too large to free the boy’s broken foot. Seeing no other option Sam, a former doctor, realises she’ll have to amputate if Danny’s going to stand any chance of surviving!

Will both Danny and Sam (Charlotte Salt) pay the price for this overstepping of paramedic duties in a dire emergency? One thing’s for certain, Sam’s professionalism is going to be called into question by new paramedic boss Jan Jenning…

Elsewhere, Bea ignores Ethan’s calls, not realising he wants to help her salvage her promising career. When Bea’s alcoholic dad Dougie is admitted to the ED, however, she has no choice but to face her colleagues and her fears. Without wanting to give too much away, Bea’s painful, private life is revealed! Bea’s adamant her resignation from the ED still stands but Dylan has a few choice words for her...

Meanwhile Iain and Sam are flabbergasted when their new paramedic boss Jan Jennings, played by Stella’s Di Botcher, turns up. Will she be a friend or a foe when Sam and Iain are forced to amputate a young man’s foot, leaving him traumatised?

Also this week, with Charlie wedded to his stressful new job as Staff Nurse Manager, his wife Duffy is feeling rather neglected. Will the arrival of old acquaintance Jan Jenning spell even more trouble for the couple? With Charlie constantly busy, Duffy may have found a new pal to replace him!

Connie continues to rule the ED with a rod of iron. Even though new junior doctor, Eddie, behaves impressively, Connie's determined to replace Bea as quickly as possible, as the department can’t afford to be a doctor short.

Louise faces an enormous parking fine after leaving her car to help a collapsed patient outside the hospital. Something tells us the strong-willed nurse is going to take a stand. Go Louise!

And Leigh-Anne pays Ethan an unexpected visit at the ED. Is she starting to seriously fall for him? If only she knew what we know...
