Kim gets busy answering calls

Kim Woodburn, 76, who made her name as co-host of How Clean Is Your House?, tells TV Times how she got on in her temp agony aunt job… See the full interview in TV Times on Sale 16 October.

You were on the phone line for a whole day. Can you tell us about some of the calls you received? People called in with every conceivable problem! There was one woman in her 70s who was having an affair with a married man and I had a boy who’d had his hair dyed and it had turned yellow. I wanted to say, ‘You twerp!’ but he was distraught.

We all had to listen to exactly what was making them sad and try to advise them with our own knowledge. It was really nice to be there for them. If you come off the phone and you’ve helped somebody, you think, ‘Oh gosh, that was good!’ Not only do we help people, but we’re also making money for cancer research, which is wonderful.

Are you a good listener? I don’t know! I suppose I’m a sympathetic soul. I’ve lived for 76 years, so I’ve had the good, the bad and the ugly in my life.
