Comedy writer extraordinaire Carla Lane tickled ribs, shattered glass ceilings and changed the face of television. This welcome repeat celebrates the first great British female sitcom writer, who died recently aged 87, and is preceded by a classic Liver Birds episode. The series following the escapades of two young women in Liverpool ran from 1969-1978.
Nerys Hughes (Sandra), flatmate Polly James (Beryl), and Emmerdale favourite Elizabeth Estensen (Carol, in later series) join the writer to recall the groundbreaking show, while archive footage features a young John Nettles as Sandra's beau, plus clips from Carla classics Butterflies and Bread.
