One of the funniest teen comedies of the 1980s, Ferris Bueller's Day Off finds Matthew Broderick's cocky teenager playing truant from high school for a day of rebellious adventure in the company of girlfriend Sloane (Mia Sara) and best friend Cameron (Alan Ruck).

Borrowing the prized 1961 Ferrari convertible belonging to Cameron's dad, Ferris proceeds to bamboozle teachers, maitre d's and most of the adult population of Chicago in pursuit of a good time - but his envious sister Jeanie (Jennifer Grey) and the school's Dean of Students (Jeffrey Jones) are determined to ensure he gets his comeuppance... Charlie Sheen even has a small role as a leather-jacketed tear-away.

Slickly written and directed by John Hughes, Ferris Bueller is full of lovely sight gags and snappy one-liners, but it's the perfect casting that really makes the film a triumph. With another actor in the title role, you'd probably want to give Ferris a slap. Instead, from start to finish, Broderick's mischievous charm ensures we're rooting for him to succeed.
