Eric Monkman and Bobby Seagull found fame and friendship on BBC2’s University Challenge.

In this new four-part series, the two brainboxes are on a journey of discovery around the nation to track down its best scientific, engineering and technological marvels.

Monkman & Seagull's Genius Guide to Britain

Eric Monkman and Bobby Seagull at the Jodrell Bank Observatory

They begin by hitting Blackpool Pleasure Beach. After studying how the oldest fairground ride in the UK – Sir Hiram Maxim’s 1904 ‘Captive Flying Machines’ – works, Eric and Bobby visit the British Lawnmower Museum in Southport before indulging in a spot of trigonometry to measure the Emley Moor transmitter.

They make great geeky guides in this slightly bizarre series.
