It took a special project to encourage Idris Elba to ditch his usual grittiness and play it for laughs but this wonderfully witty and affectionate comedy, inspired by his own 1980s childhood, did just that.

Anyone who remembers the decade of rolled-up suit sleeves, big hair and Pat Sharp will love every nostalgic reference and Idris gives a fantastic turn as upstanding dad Walter, who has a sweet bond with his cheeky young son Kobna (Sammy Kamara, who lights up the screen).

But Walter’s charming but unruly brother Valentine (Jimmy Akingbola) brings mayhem in his wake as he tries to inject some fun and mischief into his young nephew’s life.
