The Japanese have always been notorious for their hideously gruelling game shows, as Clive James used to delight in showing us on his chat and clip show in the 1980s.

So just in case you’d forgotten, this new series celebrates some of the funniest (not to mention most painful and disgusting) moments from Japan’s iconic game shows.

Brace yourself for ‘the lift of slime’ and, perhaps worse, ‘the lift of eels’.
