The Lost Boys - Paramount Network

Kiefer Sutherland is a teen bloodsucker

Kiefer Sutherland heads the great fresh-faced young cast in this winning mix of vampire horror and humour. 4/5 stars

Dianne Wiest and her two teenage sons, Jason Patric and Corey Haim, move to the seaside town of Santa Clara - the 'murder capital of the world'.

Sutherland and his ghoulish biker gang could have something to do with all the missing people, Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander are a couple of fearless vampire hunters and vampire Alex Winter suffers the most catastrophic exit when he tumbles into a bath of holy water.

Much of the dizzy night-time action centres on the town's boardwalk funfair and, filmed at a cracking pace with the inevitable heart-stabbing climax, this movie looks great and is hugely entertaining.

Jason Best

A film critic for over 25 years, Jason admits the job can occasionally be glamorous – sitting on a film festival jury in Portugal; hanging out with Baz Luhrmann at the Chateau Marmont; chatting with Sigourney Weaver about The Archers – but he mostly spends his time in darkened rooms watching films. He’s also written theatre and opera reviews, two guide books on Rome, and competed in a race for Yachting World, whose great wheeze it was to send a seasick film critic to write about his time on the ocean waves. But Jason is happiest on dry land with a classic screwball comedy or Hitchcock thriller.
