The great and the good of TV gather for the annual National Television Awards with Dermot O'Leary overseeing proceedings
Let battle commence as stars of the small screen gather under the roof of London’s O2 in their red-carpet finery for one of the biggest nights of the TV year, with Dermot O’Leary, who’s notched up 10 years as host, overseeing proceedings.
Among the hopefuls are Killing Eve star Jodie Comer and Doctor Who’s Jodie Whittaker, who go head to head for best Drama Performance, and Holly Willoughby facing Ant and Dec in the best TV Presenter category.
Can Emmerdale scoop the gong for best Serial Drama for the third year in a row, and could this be Love Island’s year? With votes being cast by viewers, frankly it’s all up for grabs!
TV Times rating: ****
Dermot O’Leary on the exciting addition to this year’s NTAs and his predictions…
Jodie v Jodie
Doctor Who’s Jodie Whittaker faces Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer for Drama Performance.
‘This is tough,’ says Dermot. ‘Jodie C was great in Killing Eve but I’m mates with Jodie W!’
Michelle Keegan (Our Girl), Richard Madden (Bodyguard) and Cillian Murphy (Peaky Blinders) are also in the mix.
Emmerdale v Corrie
Emmerdale has won the Serial Drama gong two years in a row, but can it beat Corrie, EastEnders and Hollyoaks once more?
‘After another great year, I wouldn’t be surprised if it wins again,’ says Dermot.
Holly v Ant & Dec
Holly Willoughby replaced Ant McPartlin as co-host of I’m a Celebrity with Declan Donnelly, but now she’s vying against the duo, plus Phillip Schofield, Graham Norton and Bradley Walsh, for TV Presenter.
‘Holly deserves it,’ says Dermot.
Bodyguard v Killing Eve
Bodyguard, Killing Eve, The Cry, A Discovery of Witches and Girlfriends are up for New Drama.
‘It’s hard to see past Bodyguard and Killing Eve,’ says Dermot. ‘Bodyguard had everything thrown at it; Killing Eve was so dark. I loved both.’
Love Island v Mrs Brown
Love Island, All Round to Mrs Brown’s, I’m a Celebrity, The Graham Norton Show and Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway are in the running for the Entertainment Award.
‘Love Island is Big Brother for this generation,’ says Dermot.
