Expect sparks to fly as Piers Morgan's Life Stories returns with Mel B as the first guest

The line-up for series 16 of Life Stories is impressive – Lord Alan Sugar, with whom Piers Morgan has crossed swords many times, I’m a Celebrity… winner Harry Redknapp, entertainer Michael Barrymore and chat legend Sir Michael Parkinson.

First up, however, is pop singer Mel B, whose interview has already made headlines since it emerged that she tells Piers her relationship with Geri Horner was – well, a bit spicy!

"This is an amazing Life Story," Piers told TV Times.

"Mel’s early life in Leeds was tinged with lots of racism and family difficulties.

"Yet she fought her way to become one of the biggest pop stars in the world.

"Then you have her terrible marriage and divorce, and it turns out the great love of her life was [Hollywood star] Eddie Murphy. She talks openly about all that."

These in-depth interviews make a refreshing change from the product-plugging that is standard fare on chat shows and, whatever you think of the opinionated Good Morning Britain host, he sure gets a lot out of his guests.
