More intrepid retired celebrities, including Stephanie Beacham, Susan George, Syd Little, Bob Champion, Peter Dean and Krankies Ian and Janette Tough, head to India for adventure

Nine celebrities of a certain age check into The Real Marigold Hotel for a third series of the silver surfer show.

Among the famous faces road- testing retirement in Udaipur are Stephanie Beacham, Susan George, Syd Little, jockey Bob Champion, ex-EastEnder Peter Dean and Krankies double act Ian and Janette Tough.

But it’s not long before some of them are struggling with the size of the ants, the scary tuk-tuks or – as in Bob’s case – the Indian food!

The Real Marigold Hotel

Selina Scott, Ian Tough, Janette Tough, Susan George, Bob Champion, Syd Little, Stanley Johnson, Peter Dean, Stephanie Beacham head to India for a new series of adventures

Meanwhile, Stephanie bursts into tears during a meditation session in an Ashram, and Syd goes green when he sees a chicken being killed for their supper.

'I found it profoundly moving and had a little cry during the meditation,' says Stephanie. 'I seemed to spend the whole time in India either laughing or crying, the emotions were very extreme. I can only imagine what I looked like at the ashram, though, because it was a very scrubbed experience!'

Fun viewing, but as ever the real star of the show is India.
