Alan Titchmarsh and his team of co-presenters delve into Britain’s rich past in this six-part series that goes behind the scenes of the National Trust to celebrate its important work and reveal its incredible array of treasures.

This first programme sees Alan at the gargantuan Jacobean palace of Knole, Kent, where a  £20m restoration project – one of the most ambitious in the Trust’s history – is under way to save the sprawling former hunting lodge of Henry VIII.

Meanwhile, Anneka Rice uncovers the mysteries of Croome Court, Worcestershire, and Joan Bakewell helps with the delicate process of restoring a 300-year-old painting.
