With that trademarked little boy's grin working overtime, Jack Black excels as sexist, laddish Hal who is hypnotised by a self-help guru into seeing only people's inner beauty.
So, when the obese Rosemary (Gwyneth Paltrow) comes into his life, Black sees a slim stunner and is smitten.
Written, directed and produced by the masters of gross-out comedy, the Farrelly Brothers, the plot is tasteless, but the film balances its hefty number of visual and verbal gags with poignant observations on the meaning of love.
