Starring Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep, this is a gripping true-story tale about crusading journalists from Steven Spielberg.

In 1971, steadfast newspaper publisher Kay Graham (Streep) and  Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee (Hanks) team up to expose the lies of President Nixon's US government over Vietnam, paving the way for Watergate.

With Spielberg, Streep and Hanks together, this had Oscar  written all over it, although, in the end, the film came away empty handed.

It still makes for compelling viewing, though, even if we know the outcome, and is also a rousing salute to the news media.

The age of hot metal typesetting may be long gone, but the notion of embattled journalists going up against a controversial president certainly has a topical ring.
