The Voice UK – ITV
Red spinning chairs, four superstar coaches, and hundreds of singing hopefuls – it can only mean one thing: The Voice UK is back on ITV this week!
Red spinning chairs, four superstar coaches, and hundreds of singing hopefuls – it can only mean one thing: The Voice UK is back on ITV this week!
As The Voice UK returns, things look familiar as all four star coaches – will.i.am, Sir Tom Jones, Jennifer Hudson and Olly Murs – are back in those big red chairs, listening out for singers who’ll make them turn around!
Host Emma Willis is back, too, but there’s a major change to the show’s format in that contestants are now allowed to audition as trios.
With Tom reigning champion after winning with Ruti Olajugbagbe last year, the other three coaches need to up their game.
And as the blind auditions kick off this week, it seems the competition is already on…
TV Times rating: ***
Olly Murs, will.i.am, Sir Tom Jones and Jennifer Hudson will again act as coaches for the wannabe stars, while Emma Willis returns as host. As the Blind Auditions get going, TV Times catches up with Olly, 34, who reveals he’s in it to win it…
How does it feel to be back as a coach for a second year?
I’m loving it! I really enjoy the whole process of doing this show – not just finding the talent but all the jokes and the banter with the other coaches. If Jen, Will and Tom hadn’t come back collectively, I’m not sure I would have returned. I think we’re just a great combination.
Are you pleased that you’re no longer the new boy?
Until I win, I am still the new boy! I need to earn my stripes. But it’s great that I don’t feel as inexperienced this time. I’m trying not to look at Will too much during the auditions because he’s playing games with me – but it’s cool, it’s fun.
For the first time, the Blind Auditions are open to trios…
It’s amazing to have trios and it’s great to see the show developing like that. Jennifer starred in the film Dreamgirls, so she knows what it’s like singing in three-part harmonies. But, as always, we’re all looking for something different, something unique.
