Did you know Prince Charles is a member of the Magic Circle? He’s got quite the sense of humour, too, which is why we’re celebrating his 70th birthday with a glittering line-up of comedians and magicians in this variety special.

Alexander Armstrong and Ben Miller reunite to host the show

Alexander Armstrong and Ben Miller have reunited to host the show, which includes hilarious sets from Sandi Toksvig, Rowan Atkinson and Omid Djalili, as well as breathtaking illusions from Penn & Teller and Dynamo.

At glitzy event, which was recorded last month, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall sit in the front row of the circle balcony rather than the royal box. And he may be a prince, but that doesn’t stop the performers making a few jokes at HRH’s expense – while Sooty and Sweep have a little giggle at his baby photos, Sandi offers some tips on the joys of growing older!

Also performing on stage is someone is singer Rebecca Amissah, who opens the show by singing the national anthem, accompanied by the Band of the Welsh Guards.

Rebecca, from Romford, founded a choir, Gospel Essence, with the support of the Prince’s Trust, so performing was her chance to say thank you.

‘What an amazing honour to sing in front of Prince Charles and the Duchess,’ says Rebecca. ‘I don’t know if I’ll get the opportunity to do that again in my lifetime.

My parents and my partner were in the audience – they were really proud.’
