A new one-off documentary, A Year of British Murder, reveals the terrible toll on the victims and their grieving families
Quamari Serunkuma-Barnes was 15 when he was stabbed to death outside his London school in January 2017.
Tragically, that year in Britain, 768 people died as a result of murder or manslaughter, and Quamari’s story is one of 13 told in this film revealing the impact such crimes have on victims’ families.
We see Quamari’s parents, Paul (pictured top) and Lillian, in tearful scenes outside court after their son’s 15-year-old killer is sentenced.
There are other moving moments when Marinela, whose son Razvan was beaten to death, collects his bloodied belongings, and when family and friends of Westminster Bridge terror attack victim Leslie Rhodes unveil a bench in his memory.

As TV Times Highlights Editor I get to hear about all the latest TV shows coming soon. Here at TVT HQ we are in the privileged position of selecting the best programmes from across all the channels and streaming platforms. Our mission is to make it easier for our readers to decide what to watch - and give them lots of choice of genres - all the latest shows, plus some nostalgic choices we call hidden gems, too. My career began with a postgraduate degree in periodical journalism (ahem, yes old school!) in 1991 and I’ve worked in TV media since 2000.
