When he discovers his wife Amy's one-night stand with Harry, (opens in new tab)Holby City registrar Raf is out for revenge in BBC1's medical drama, as Joe McFadden reveals...
With a baby on the way, Raf and Amy are looking to the future. But how much of a strain have their fertility issues put on their marriage?
"When they struggled to conceive a child through IVF, Raf thought maybe it wasn't meant to be. But Amy was desperate for a baby and wouldn't accept that - this drove a massive wedge between them and they stopped communicating. Then, unbeknownst to Raf, Amy had a one-night stand..."
Raf hasn't seen eye-to-eye with Harry since he arrived at Holby. Why is that?
"Raf sees Harry as a posh boy who's had everything handed to him on a plate, unlike Raf, a working class lad, who's had to scrimp and scrape to get where he is. Also, Harry uses a lot of his energy chatting up nurses, whereas Raf's attention is always on the job."
Why does Raf become suspicious of Amy and Harry's behaviour this week?
"Raf sees them in corners whispering to each other, so he knows there's something going on. Raf gets suspicious when both Amy and Harry's versions of events about the recent drug mix-up don't add up, so Raf orders Amy to tell him the truth about what's going on. Only, Amy tells him the real truth - that she slept with Harry - which is 100 times worse!"
How does Raf react to the bombshell news?
"Raf feels utterly betrayed. He'd never have imagined in a million years Amy would have a one-night stand - and with the worst person it could possibly be with! Then when the penny drops and Raf realises Harry could be the father of Amy's baby, it rocks his world."
Surprisingly, Raf doesn't let on to Harry that he knows. How is Raf going to deal with Harry in the coming weeks?
"Harry wants to move on in his career, but he has to get through Raf, the more senior doctor, to be able to do that, so Raf knows he can make Harry dance to his tune. Raf believes there's more than one way to skin a cat... and that revenge is a dish best served cold!"
Holby City continues on Tuesdays at 8pm on BBC1.
