Hollyoaks star Emma Rigby won Best Actress at the British Soap Awards on Saturday night - an award she earlier said she would have no chance of winning. Emma, who plays Hannah Ashworth in the Channel 4 soap, beat off stiff competition in the category from EastEnders' Jo Joyner (Tanya Branning) and Lacey Turner (Stacey Slater) and Emmerdale's Charlotte Bellamy (Laurel Thomas). Speaking ahead of the event, Emma said: "It would be lovely to win but I'm not holding out much hope." Emma was at the centre of one of Hollyoaks' most powerful storylines where her character Hannah developed the eating disorder bulimia. And Emma said she felt privileged to have been able to tackle such a serious subject. She said: "I've received lots of fan mail and one person said that the storyline helped him understand what his sister was going through." Emma also spilled the beans on some upcoming storylines. She revealed: "Hannah and Danny go through a rough patch and there's something to do with Mercedes McQueen, so I think we might see a more feisty Hannah."
