Hollyoaks actress Gemma Merna won Best Comedy Performance at the British Soap Awards on Saturday night for her role as Carmel McQueen. A relative newcomer to the world of soaps, Gemma, 22, has quickly become central cast member of Hollyoaks playing ditzy but loveable Carmel. She told whatsontv.co.uk that the award recognised the hard work she'd put in to her acting and was a tribute to how Hollyoaks' new production team had changed the soap.
