Hollyoaks’ Gloved Hand Killer Sophie Austin has said she is leaving the long-running Channel 4 show.

The actress has already filmed her last scenes as murderous medic Lindsey Butterfield, but refused to be drawn on whether her character will finally get her comeuppance. She did reveal, however, that she had been shooting a lot of scenes with Jeff Rawle, who plays Silas.

“The scenes we’ve been shooting are some of the most tense I’ve ever filmed,” she said, adding teasingly, “I’ve also been filming a lot with Jen Metcalfe [Mercedes], and she has unfinished business with Silas.

“Whether it’s the end of the road for Lindsey, you’ll all have to wait and see. By the time I see everyone again at the British Soap Awards in May they will know if Lindsey’s had her comeuppance or if she could pull on those gloves again one day in the future.”

On her departure from the C4 soap, she said: “I’m really sad to be leaving Hollyoaks, it’s been such a huge part of my life for so long.

“I came in [in 2013] with the Roscoe brothers and Gilly Taylforth. She eventually became my mother in law, which was a soap dream come true. She’s also become a great friend.

“As for the storylines, Lindsey’s been stalked by her own sister, had two babies with different Roscoe brothers and she’s also murdered seven people!”

Sophie also talked movingly about the split earlier this year from her husband Graeme Rooney, whom she married in July last year.

“The breakdown of any long-term relationship is always difficult and this has been no exception,” she told reporters. “We’ve been best friends for so many years and I will always care for him dearly.”

Hollyoaks continues on C4 tomorrow at 6.30pm
