Former soap star Philip Olivier has been fined £20,000 by magistrates after being convicted of flouting housing regulations. The 27-year-old, who starred in Hollyoaks spin-off Hollyoaks In The City, Brookside and was a winner of Channel 4's The Games, was found guilty at Liverpool Magistrates' Court under his full name Philip Borg-Olivier on Monday August 13. The actor, from Liverpool, didn't attend court and nobody was present to represent him. Magistrates were told he fell foul of new laws which require landlords of three-storey houses, or houses where five or more unrelated people live, to register with the local authority. He was found guilty on two counts in relation to a property in Wellfield Road, Liverpool, and also ordered to pay £250 costs. The court heard he didn't own the property but was the landlord and received rent for it. The property is now thought to have been sold. Liverpool City Council said it believes as many as seven people were living in the terraced house at once. The investigation was launched following a complaint to Merseyside Police. A council spokesman said: "The legislation was introduced following recent Government research that showed people living in these types of property are 16 times more likely to die or be injured in a fire than people living in a single occupancy house."
