Former Home and Away star is charged with sexual assault

Martin Lynes, who played Adam Sharpe in Home and Away, has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman.

He is accused of attacking the alleged victim following an altercation at his home in Bateau Bay, just north of Sydney, on Australia’s Central Coast on 29 February.

After the incident, the alleged victim's family phoned the police, who went to his home, but he wasn't there. Lynes was arrested the next day on 1 March. Meanwhile, it's been reported by The Daily Telegraph, that the woman involved was taken to a nearby hospital where she was treated for injuries, including concussion, bruising and bites.

New South Wales Police – who did not name Lynes – said a 48-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday and has been charged with nine offences, including sexual assault and indecent assault.

He is also accused of four counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and three counts of common assault.

Lynes appeared in the Australian soap between 2012 and 2014. In the series, his character was a friend of the Braxton brothers, who turned up in Summer Bay to help them locate their missing half-brother, Kyle. Initially, he seemed like a good guy, offering guidance to the youngest sibling Casey and paying off a debt for Brax, but his later storylines included supplying drugs to Bianca Scott, attempting to kill another of the Braxton siblings, Heath, and kidnapping both Heath's daughter Darcy and Casey's girlfriend Tamara, albeit at separate times. After shooting Brax, Adam was arrested an sent to prison, where he took the rap for a murder Brax committed as a teenager.

Lynes has also starred in a number of Australia TV shows, including All Saints and Packed To The Rafters. More recently, he has been working for a real estate agency.

He has been granted conditional bail to appear before Wyong Local Court on 27 April.
